What is EVP?

Electronic voice phenomena (EVP) are electronically generated noises that resemble speech. Common sources of EVP include static, stray radio transmissions, paranormal investigator's voices and background noise.  EVP are usually claimed to be from ghosts, spirits, demons, aliens, bigfoot or unicorn farts.

Recordings of EVP are often created from background sound by increasing the sensitivity of the recording equipment so that it picks up and amplifies every little noise in the area which can later be used to imagine voices.

In order to make these false or imagined EVP's appear more "scientific'ee" paranormal "investigators" will often classify the EVP.

EVP Classifications:

• Class A EVP - 100% audible, faked or hoaxed voice - clear voice & intelligent or reactive responses.  Usually having the same accent or other speech patterns as the people on the "investigation" team.

• Class B EVP - Practically audible, some doubt to the interpretation, requiring more manipulation in computer software before it can be passed-off as a Class A


• Class C EVP - Only a very active imagination is able to recognize as a voice.  May require watching additional episodes of Ghost Hunters before the weak-minded can be convinced this is anything other than a random noise or natural sound.  If you can't convince anyone that it's a word, then label it as a "growl" or some other nonsensical 'spirt' noise.

• Class D EVP - Non yet faked or generated EVP.  Still needs more computer manipulation before it can be accepted as anything.

• Class G EVP - Natural background noises.  Must loop and listen to it 100 times or more before you can imagine anything in it.

• Class R EVP - Class B or Class C EVP, played in reverse, sped-up, or slowed down.  Only recognizable as anything intelligible when the imagined words are presented before or during playback (like in those fake YouTube videos or lame TV shows).
